Bridal portraits have been a thing for ages. Probably since the first image was taken. Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about whether or not bridal portraits even matter. Especially since the bride will be photographed throughout the wedding day. Some photographers still push for it. Even more so that anything else, they will traditionally ask for this to happen before the wedding day. It’s something that helps with getting comfortable with the dress. Seeing what you can do with the dress, so that the day of the wedding you don’t know what you can or can’t do. Also, it gives you a chance to really experiment with your photographer. Is there something that you want to try out or an idea you’d like to give your photographer? I’ll be honest, not many brides ask for the bridal session, but there have been some amazing photographs captured during these sessions. Consider it a styled shoot in a sense. You’ll be able to really let your creativity go wild. You’ll be able to get those Vanity Fair-esque session that you have in mind.

With the bridal session, you of course risk that your wedding dress will get dirty. I know that’s the last thing that you want to hear, but you won’t be in a studio. The days of walking into a studio and taking a bridal portrait is long past. I would like to think that that’s one of the main reasons of the bridal portraits decrease in popularity. These are the times where we’ll go to an open field, an abandoned warehouse, or just a stroll in downtown with a few stops in parking garages (there’s great light in there!). It’s really all in the mood and emotion that you want to portray in your bridal portraits. You can have fun with it! Why not?
