Back up your Wedding Photos | Tips for Brides | Rudy and Marta

Telling someone, “Back up your wedding photos,” is like telling someone to make sure that they have their spare tire filled up.  They know they need it.  They know that they have it there just in case.  In all reality, they aren’t take the advice seriously until they actually need it.  Once the tire pops or gets flat, then they’ll reach for the spare tire only to realize that it’s empty.  The thing is that when you back up your wedding photos, you actually keep them.  If a hard drive crashes, then they won’t be accessible without professional help.  Even with a professional, they might not be able to be recovered.  So what do you do?

There’s a couple of recommendations that are out there for how to to back up your wedding photos, but I have to say that a traditional external hard drive back up with back up software is my favorite.  I’ve used My Book from Western Digital for years and haven’t had any issues.  Some people recommend a RAID set up, but I’m not a fan from what I’ve seen.  I guess it all depends on you and how comfortable you are with how you back up your wedding photos.

The reason that I mention this is because at the middle of the busy season this Spring, our hard drive crashed.  I’ll never, ever buy anything from SeaGate.  My hard drive crashed entirely from less than three years of using it.  After doing a little bit of research, the company SeaGate was in the middle of a lawsuit because of their high failure rate with their hard drives.  I’m so lucky that I had a chance to back up everything to our external.  The difficult thing about it was that our Operating System was on that Hard Drive, which made getting everything back in working order a little difficult.  It took us a little over a week to get everything back into working order.  It all worked out though.  I got some new stuff for the computer making it faster and more reliable.

“The moral of the story is to simply back up your wedding photos.”

The moral of the story is to simply back up your wedding photos.  The last thing that you want to happen is to run into an issue like this.  Especially when it’s something as important as your wedding images.
