UF Gardens | Gainesville Engagement | Rudy & Marta Photography

We gave a little sneak peek at Ashley+Joshua’s Engagement Session at the UF Gardens not too long ago.  I talked about the camaraderie and love of the sport in that post.  I talked about how under all that love for the sport, there’s something more to have.  There’s a sense of community in that small town.  There’s a sense of unity in Gainesville that’s hard to explain.  It’s something there that you can’t quite put your finger on, but you know it’s there when you get out and start to walk around.

While we were in the UF Gardens, there were plenty of people walking around having fun with their family and friends.  We ran into a bunch of runners in their afternoon workout.  It was a little muggy, but it’s a swamp.  We came to the session expecting it.  I think I could tell that everyone knew what we were doing there.  Everyone saw the camera and almost instantly understood.  Not to say that it’s not obvious carrying a huge camera around doesn’t mark you as a photographer, but sometimes people get nosy and stare.  Many of the people simply saw what we were doing, shrugged it off, and moved on.  There was something that just clicked.

“Once Ashley and Josh got to the UF Gardens, things started to click almost immediately.”

Once Ashley and Josh got to the UF Gardens, things started to click almost immediately.  There was that standard “What the heck do you want me to do?  There’s a camera being pointed at me,” phase.  Once that was over, the magic started happening.  These two rocked their session.  I even brought my film camera with a roll of Kodak’s Ektar 100.  I don’t think they expected it.  Most couples rarely do, but it was awesome because I was finally able to use my Nikon F100 in some sort of professional capacity.  I’ve always been a fan of film since I discovered it.  VSCO Lightroom Filters can’t do everything.  It gets close, but there’s no cigar.  I was glad that I brought it.

At the UF Gardens, we went around and scoped out a few spots before they arrived, so when we got there it was quick and we made awesomeness happen.  The photographs that came out of that session are among some of my favorite film and digital ones.  After the UF Gardens, we went to the stadium.  There was an away game, so there were very few people there.  Again, we ran into a couple of runners, but overall it was simply us hanging out and having a good time.  Check out the images that we got at the UF Gardens and the stadium.
