Summer Camp | Birchbox Monthly | Tips for Grooms

Summer Camp has always been something that has been a staple of growing up in the US.  I’m not sure if it’s the same thing when it comes to summer across the pond or in South America, but it’s definitely like that in North America.  It’s kind of part of the whole American Dream scenario.  Send the kids to summer camp in order to experience what it is to be living in the wilderness and among other people their age.  I spent my time in my grandparents house in Puerto Rico on their farm.  I would help anyway that I could and I was able to learn so much about life there and more.

This months BirchBox theme is Summer Camp.  The days of exploring the wilderness may be over for the majority of us, but there were some pretty cool things that came in this BirchBox this month.

Summer Camp Box:

Summer Birchbox

Summer Balm: Air Repair | Rescue Balm All Purpose- Skin Salve and Lip Balm | $12

This is an awesome balm.  The moment that I applied it for the first time, I started feeling my lips get smooth and it felt great.  It’s definitely fast acting and would recommend this to anyone.  My only gripe is that the sample was too small and that I’m not too big on balms as liquid as this one.  Aside from that, it’s something that I’d look to replace the Burt’s Bees in my pocket.

Would I buy this on my own?  No.  Maybe it’s the sample, but the packaging and logo isn’t too appealing to me.  If it wasn’t for this sample, I probably would’ve never tried the product.
Is it a good product?  Yup.  I am about half way done with the sample and I’ve only had the box for a week.

Summer Deodorant: Baxter of California | Deodorant | $18

This is an aluminum-free deodorant that’s made with tea tree oil and chamomile.  My first impressions of the deodorant were great.  It smelled great.  It was easy to apply.  The sample was a good size.  It wasn’t until later that day, in the middle of the night, that I realized how much I didn’t like this product.  I woke up in the middle of the night to a rash in both my arm pits.  It was so bad that I literally woke up scratching.  Needless to say, I’m not a fan of it.

Would I buy this on my own?  Heck no.  Not after that crappy night.
Is it a good product?  No.  The only thing that I still enjoy from that experience is the smell.  I am probably never going to use it again.

Summer Facial Cleaner: Billy Jealousy | White Knight Gentle Daily Facial Cleaner | $20

Alright.  I’m a fanboy of anything that’s from Billy Jealous.  After my initial experience with their moisturizer I had been hoping that I’d get some other products from them.  I’m happy to say that I have not been let down by these guys.  Another home run.  The papaya in this blend is astounding.  It smells great.  It feels great.  Most importantly, it doesn’t leave my sensitive skin all dry and begging to be moisturized.

Would I buy this on my own?  Oh yes.  This is such a good product.  I’m in love with this line.  It’s definitely something that I’d recommend to anyone with normal skin or not.
Is it a good product?  Please see above. LOL

Summer Moisturizer: Clinique for Men | Broad Spectrum SPF 21 Moisturizer | $26

Cliniqe is a company that Marta is a little bit more familiar with.  Marta gave me their pre-shaving cleaner that I use every once in a while to prep my face for a close shave after a few days of not shaving.  I’ve been pleased with what that cleaner can do.  This moisturizer is no different.  It was a little bit to heavy at first and it had a little of that sun lotion smell, but it felt great in the long run.  Once it settled, it felt as if it wasn’t there.  It just needed to be absorbed first.  I guess it’s a moisturizer that isn’t meant for people on the run?  I don’t know.

Would I buy this on my own?  No.  I’m alright where I’m at with the cleaner.  The moisturizer wouldn’t be something that I would use on the regular.  I’m usually on the go.
Is it a good product? Yeah.  It does what it’s meant to do.  I would recommend this to anyone, as long as you had the time to let it settle in.

Summer Accessory: Bison Made | Double Wrap Bracelet | $40

I’m not going to lie, I was a little bit skeptical about this little accessory.  Initially, I just picked it up, put it on and it felt a little too….hippie-ish?  I don’t know.  It just didn’t feel like something that I would like to wear on the regular.  Honestly, I’ve found myself putting it on more and more.  I don’t know.  I’ve grown to like it.  Maybe I’ll pair it up with the next watch that I get.  I mean…that is what it’s meant to do, isn’t it?  The bracelet is made with Hermann Oak leather.  I had to cut mine by about half an inch.  It was a little too long.  That being said, I was happy with it.

Would I buy this on my own?  Nope. Nope. Nope.  I’ll never see myself spending $40 for a bracelet.  Thanks BirchBox, regardless.
Is it a good product? The build is solid.  I’ve taken it for a spin here and there, but I’m still breaking it in.  So far…it’s a good accessory.
