Handmade Wedding | Felicia+Anthony | Rudy & Marta

On April 5th, I woke up with my heart pumping.  Despite the lack of sleep from the long previous I night, I was awake and aware.  Slowly I got out of bed and started to brew a cup of coffee for myself and for Marta.  It was Saturday and a wedding was to be had.  Then I realized, I’d be photographing THAT wedding.  My hands started to get a little clammy.  Not the bad clammy, mind you.  This was pure excitement.  I had never attended, let alone worked on a majorly handmade wedding of this caliber.  I dropped off the coffee at Marta’s night stand and I grabbed a bowl of raisin bran cereal.

“…lenses…check…batteries charged…check…batteries in flashes…check…”

I was going through my mental checklist in order to make sure that everything that I needed for the day was prepped and ready to go.  See….this wedding was different from usual weddings.  I’ve photographed many of my friends’ weddings before in the past, but this one was different.  Marta was part of the Bridal Party, which meant that I would have to do everything.  I’ve never done that before.  I’ve always been part of a team.  I’d always gone with the guys.  I’d always depended on her to take care of the bridal stuff.  I’ve never been an expert there and didn’t have too much experience.  My coffee started to get cold.  My cereal was gone.  I snapped out of my daze.  I gulped the rest of my coffee and started to get ready to head out to this handmade wedding at Magnolia House at Trilogy.

Once I got there the sun was bright and the day was humid.  I had previously been there and scoped out some areas that I wouldn’t have minded to work in with the bride.  My mind was racing today though.  I looked at all features of every location; the way the light hit everything, how the architecture was laid out, how the furniture was placed, etc.  Everything came into play today.

I started making mental notes of interesting locations and places I’d like to work.  Even more so, I made mental notes of all the details that were important in this handmade wedding. I quickly made it to the prep area where the girls were getting ready.  It was a safe haven of sorts since the Magnolia House at Trilogy is very open.  I stopped by multiple times in order to make sure that everything was going smoothly with the bridal party as well as check on Marta.

“Something that I did notice at the Magnolia House at Trilogy was the amount of detail that was put into everything and how this handmade wedding fit right in.”

Something that I did notice at the Magnolia House at Trilogy was the amount of detail that was put into everything and how this handmade wedding fit right in.  Everything in the venue screamed for an opportunity to be used in a photograph.  There was so much inspiration that was to be had in the environment.  As the day progressed, shadows became longer, the light became warmer, and love was to be had.  The ceremony was beautiful and marvelous.  It was short and there were some hiccups with the music, but it happened and I witnessed the beginning of a new chapter in someone else’s life.

I helped capture the love that was being shared between the two of them and the joy that was brought to two different families.  The Magnolia House at Trilogy was the perfect place to have something like that occur in.  The feeling of family and the warmth to be had was something that fit perfectly with the venue.  The handmade wedding that occurred at the Magnolia House at Trilogy was beautiful in every aspect.

Everything that was done for that day was made by hand, except for a few things.  There were things I didn’t expect.  I had no idea whether or not some of the details were store bought or handmade.  All I do know is that all of the blood, sweat, tears, and love are all evident in every last detail in this handmade wedding.  The Magnolia House at Trilogy simply picked it up and said that they were all okay with it.  They embraced what Felicia wanted and made it work.

Below you’ll find something that may not look perfect.  Below you’ll find something that may mean nothing to you.  But I do guarantee that below you’ll find something that is full of real.  That is full of love.  That is full of (what I like to call) la pasión.
