I will be the first to admit that same sex weddings are completely different than hetero weddings. The same goes for same sex engagement sessions. It might be hard for some people to understand, but there’s a level of emotion that’s hard to describe. There’s a well of emotion that wasn’t there before. Marriage equality is something that we’ve felt strongly about for a long time. For a lot of same sex couples, a wedding is something that they never imagined. Having the opportunity to devote yourself to someone else that you love was something that just wasn’t in the game plan for them.
I’ve talked about how the importance of engagement session is in the whole wedding photography process. We always expect some sort of awkwardness when it comes to couples. It’s natural. Just like the actual ceremony of your wedding day, we need a rehearsal of sorts. Heck, even Rock ‘n’ Roll Bride talks about it.
” We had a same sex engagement session with Ryan and Colby a few weeks ago.”
Every time that Marta and I have worked with a same sex couple, we see the emotion. We see the tremendous amount of joy in their eyes. We had a same sex engagement session with Ryan and Colby a few weeks ago. Let’s just say that it was awesome! I don’t know what it was, but that emotion and love that Marta and I crave for were there. It was as if they knew from the get go what it was that we were trying to capture. It was, for lack of a better term, easy to work with them. Leu Gardens felt like the perfect engagement session location for them. We’ve photographed couples there before.
I feel like every single one of the couples that we work with getting to the point where they warm up and the camera loves them. It’s simply a matter of connection, and that’s the thrill that Marta and I look for. Ryan and Colby hit the nail on the head when it came to what we look for in couples. Check out this same sex engagement session in Leu Gardens. We loved every second of it.
