Wedding Planner vs Venue Coordinator, What’s the Difference? | Wedding Tips

Every couple that I talk to during a consultation gets asked whether or not they’re working with a wedding planner.  I’ve talked about the importance of a wedding planner in the past.  Marta and I have talked about the differences before.  We’ve seen wedding venues in Orlando offer couples an event coordinator to help the day of.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Simply accepting the help that the venue offers is perfectly normal.  What’s the difference between a coordinator and a planner?  They’re subtle, but you can always tell the difference between a wedding planner vs venue coordinator event.

When talking about the difference between a wedding planner vs venue coordinator, a planner has solely your interest at heart from the get go.  The coordinator, on the other hand, does not.  Let me explain this a little bit.  There are some wedding venue’s that have a coordinator available or included in your wedding package.  Marta and I think that’s awesome!  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a wedding coordinator.  What we want to talk about is the common misconception that a coordinator is the same as a wedding planner, and they’re not.

A wedding planner will be with you throughout the entire journey from beginning to end.  They help handle the stress of it all.  Some offer different levels of planning but I know of only three.  Without going too deep into things, there’s Full Planning, the Month Of, and finally Day of Planning.  The names are pretty self-explanatory.

The latter of the three does not include any actual design or planning.  From planning the ceremony to the grand exit.  Instead, the Day of Planning is something where the Wedding Planner comes and manages the event.  You hand them what you have and they put it together.  The former two options include actual design and planning of the event.  Not only is the Wedding Planner doing all that, but they’re a resource of experience and knowledge from previous weddings.

From our personal experience, a venue coordinator might go above and beyond, but they’re generally not required to.  There is no planning or design with the decor.  Marta and I have seen venue coordinators help with the seating arrangements and rehearsals, but it’s not something frequently.
