How to Plan a Micro Wedding in Orlando: Your No-Stress Step-by-Step Guide (2026)
ORLANDO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
How to plan a micro wedding IN Orlando | ORLANDO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS
Smaller does not mean simpler, but it can mean calmer. A micro wedding has fewer moving pieces than a 200-person event, but the pieces that remain still need to come together cleanly. The couples who pull it off best are the ones who planned thoughtfully early and protected their breathing room late.
This guide walks you through everything: the planning timeline, the vendor list, the legal steps for getting married in Florida, and what the day actually looks like when it comes together. We have been photographing micro weddings and elopements in Orlando since 2010, and this is what we tell every couple who asks where to start. Once you’re done reading through this post, you will know exactly how to plan a micro wedding in Orlando.
Not sure yet whether a micro wedding is the right format for you? Start here first: Elopement vs. Micro Wedding vs. Minimony: What’s the Difference?
Step 1: Decide What Kind of Day You Actually Want
Before you book a single vendor, get clear on a few things.
What is your guest count ceiling? Micro weddings typically land between 20 and 50 guests. Knowing your number early shapes every other decision, from venue capacity to catering format to budget.
What elements matter most to you? Some couples want a full ceremony and a long dinner. Others want a short ceremony, a couple of hours of portraits, and a nice meal for a small group. Neither is wrong. Knowing your priorities before you start spending money will save you a lot of regret later.
What is your budget? Micro weddings typically run between $10,000 and $25,000, depending on guest count, venue, and vendor choices. That is a wide range, and where you land depends entirely on what you prioritize. Photography, florals, catering, and venue are usually the biggest line items in that order.

Step 2: Get the Legal Part Sorted
Getting married in Florida requires a marriage license from a County Clerk of Courts office. Here is what you need to know:
The basics: Both partners must appear in person at a Clerk of Courts office with a valid photo ID. The license costs around $86 in most Florida counties. You can also use an online service, like Married by Mail, to help you handle the paperwork.
The waiting period: Florida residents must wait three days after obtaining the license before the ceremony can take place. Non-residents can waive this waiting period, meaning you can get the license and marry the same day.
Expiration: Florida marriage licenses are valid for 60 days from the date of issue.
Online officiant: Florida allows couples to self-solemnize through a designated friend or family member who becomes an ordained minister online. Many couples choose this for elopements and micro weddings. The only requirement is that whoever officiates must be legally ordained, and the license must be signed and returned.
Get this step done early. It is easy to forget until the last minute, and running to a courthouse two days before your wedding is unnecessary stress.

Step 3: Choose Your Venue
Your venue choice will shape almost everything else: the timeline, the catering options, the ceremony and reception flow, and the feel of the day.
For micro weddings with 20 to 50 guests, you generally have two categories to choose from.
Full-service or partial-service venues handle the infrastructure: tables, chairs, bathrooms, catering access, and often a coordinator. Places like Paradise Cove, Cypress Grove Estate House, Casa Feliz, and Leu Gardens in Orlando work beautifully for micro weddings and are scaled appropriately for a smaller guest count. Parks and public spaces give you more location freedom with a simpler setup. Kraft Azalea Gardens, Lake Eola Park, and the Maitland Art Center are all permit-based options that work well for ceremonies with smaller groups. You will need to arrange your own catering or plan a restaurant dinner separately.

Step 4: Build Your Vendor Team
A micro wedding needs fewer vendors than a full-scale event, but the vendors you do hire matter more. Here is the core list:
Photographer. This is the one vendor where we would encourage you not to cut corners. Your photos are the one thing you keep from the day. For elopements and micro weddings, we start at $1,500, and our First Moment Collection covers up to 6 hours starting at $3,000. Full pricing and details are here: How Much Does Elopement & Micro Wedding Photography Cost in Orlando?
Officiant. Budget $200 to $500 for a professional officiant in Orlando, depending on whether you want a ceremony rehearsal and how personalized the ceremony script will be. You can also ordain a friend or family member online if you want something more personal.
Florals. A micro wedding does not need centerpieces for 20 tables. A bridal bouquet, a few smaller arrangements, and some simple ceremony florals can run $500 to $1,500 and still look beautiful. Florists generally love smaller weddings because they can focus on quality over volume.
Hair and makeup. Budget $200 to $400 per person for professional hair and makeup in the Orlando area. For a micro wedding, you may only need services for a few people, which keeps this number manageable.
Catering. This is the most variable line item. A seated dinner for 30 people at a full-service venue can run $3,000 to $8,000, depending on the menu and service style. For a very small group, some couples opt for a private dining room at a restaurant, which sidesteps catering coordination entirely.
Videography (optional). If you want a film of the ceremony and the day, video starts at $2,500. For micro weddings where the ceremony is the emotional center of the day, having audio and movement alongside the photos is something most couples are glad they added.
Coordinator (optional but recommended). Even a day-of coordinator makes a real difference for a micro wedding. Having one person managing vendor arrivals, the timeline, and logistics means you can focus on the day itself. Many coordinators offer micro wedding packages in the $800 to $1,500 range.

Step 5: Plan Your Timeline
This is where most micro weddings either succeed or feel rushed. Build more breathing room than you think you need, and always be mindful of sunset time.
Here is a sample timeline for a fall micro wedding with a 4 pm ceremony and a dinner reception:
12:00 pm – Hair and makeup begin
2:30 pm – Getting dressed, getting ready photos
3:00 pm – First look (optional, but highly recommended for protecting your portrait time)
3:15 pm – Couple portraits before the ceremony
3:45 pm – Guests arrive and are seated
4:00 pm – Ceremony begins (typically 20 to 30 minutes for a micro wedding)
4:30 pm – Cocktail hour, guests mingle, couple takes a few more portraits
5:15 pm – Golden hour portraits (the best light of the day)
6:00 pm – Dinner and reception
8:00 pm or later – Send-off or close of evening
A few things worth noting about this timeline:
The First Look at 3 pm is one of the best decisions you can make for a micro wedding. It gives you private portrait time before the ceremony when nerves are high, and emotions are real, and it means you are not racing to get portraits done between the ceremony and dinner.
Golden hour portraits at 5:15 pm are brief, about 20 to 30 minutes, but they are often the most beautiful photos of the day. Protecting that window in your timeline is worth it.
The whole day in this example is under 8 hours. You are done at a reasonable hour, you were present for every part of it, and you spent real time with every person in that room.

Step 6: Communicate With Your Guests
With a small guest list, communication is easy and important. Here is what your guests need to know well in advance:
Why it is small: You do not owe anyone an explanation, but a brief note in the invitation acknowledging that you chose an intimate celebration helps guests feel included rather than left out. Something simple: “We chose to keep our celebration small and close, and we are so glad you are one of the people in that room.”
What to expect: If your micro wedding has a non-traditional format, a simple schedule on the invitation or in a follow-up email goes a long way. Guests who know what is happening feel more relaxed and engaged.
Parking and logistics: Smaller venues sometimes have limited parking. Give your guests a heads up so nobody is circling the block during your ceremony.
Step 7: Protect the Day
Once the planning is done, the most important thing you can do is let the day happen.
This is the part where couples who chose a micro wedding for the right reasons really benefit. You are not managing a crowd. You are not disappearing for two hours of portraits. You are in the room with the people you chose, fully present, for the whole thing.
We have photographed hundreds of weddings across Central Florida, and the couples who look most at ease on their wedding day are almost always the ones with smaller guest lists and a little extra breathing room in the timeline. The day moves at a human pace. The moments that matter actually happen.
That is the whole point.
