Step 1: Decide What Kind of Day You Actually Want
Before you book a single vendor, get clear on a few things.
What is your guest count ceiling? Micro weddings typically land between 20 and 50 guests. Knowing your number early shapes every other decision, from venue capacity to catering format to budget.
What elements matter most to you? Some couples want a full ceremony and a long dinner. Others want a short ceremony, a couple of hours of portraits, and a nice meal for a small group. Neither is wrong. Knowing your priorities before you start spending money will save you a lot of regret later.
What is your budget? Micro weddings typically run between $10,000 and $25,000, depending on guest count, venue, and vendor choices. That is a wide range, and where you land depends entirely on what you prioritize. Photography, florals, catering, and venue are usually the biggest line items in that order.
Step 2: Get the Legal Part Sorted
Getting married in Florida requires a marriage license from a County Clerk of Courts office. Here is what you need to know:
The basics: Both partners must appear in person at a Clerk of Courts office with a valid photo ID. The license costs around $86 in most Florida counties. You can also use an online service, like Married by Mail, to help you handle the paperwork.
The waiting period: Florida residents must wait three days after obtaining the license before the ceremony can take place. Non-residents can waive this waiting period, meaning you can get the license and marry the same day.
Expiration: Florida marriage licenses are valid for 60 days from the date of issue.
Online officiant: Florida allows couples to self-solemnize through a designated friend or family member who becomes an ordained minister online. Many couples choose this for elopements and micro weddings. The only requirement is that whoever officiates must be legally ordained, and the license must be signed and returned.
Get this step done early. It is easy to forget until the last minute, and running to a courthouse two days before your wedding is unnecessary stress.
Step 3: Choose Your Venue
Your venue choice will shape almost everything else: the timeline, the catering options, the ceremony and reception flow, and the feel of the day.

Full-service or partial-service venues handle the infrastructure: tables, chairs, bathrooms, catering access, and often a coordinator. You will need to arrange your own catering or plan a restaurant dinner separately.

Step 4: Build Your Vendor Team
A micro wedding needs fewer vendors than a full-scale event, but the vendors you do hire matter more. Here is the core list:
Photographer. This is the one vendor where we would encourage you not to cut corners. Your photos are the one thing you keep from the day. Officiant. Budget $200 to $500 for a professional officiant in Orlando, depending on whether you want a ceremony rehearsal and how personalized the ceremony script will be. You can also ordain a friend or family member online if you want something more personal.
Florals. A micro wedding does not need centerpieces for 20 tables. A bridal bouquet, a few smaller arrangements, and some simple ceremony florals can run $500 to $1,500 and still look beautiful. Florists generally love smaller weddings because they can focus on quality over volume.
Hair and makeup. Budget $200 to $400 per person for professional hair and makeup in the Orlando area. For a micro wedding, you may only need services for a few people, which keeps this number manageable.
Catering. This is the most variable line item. A seated dinner for 30 people at a full-service venue can run $3,000 to $8,000, depending on the menu and service style. For a very small group, some couples opt for a private dining room at a restaurant, which sidesteps catering coordination entirely.

Golden hour portraits at 5:15 pm are brief, about 20 to 30 minutes, but they are often the most beautiful photos of the day. Protecting that window in your timeline is worth it.
The whole day in this example is under 8 hours. You are done at a reasonable hour, you were present for every part of it, and you spent real time with every person in that room.
