::Destination Photographer:: Aachen, Monschau, American Cemetery, and a closed Monastery

The day started out normally like any other.  We were woken up by the in-laws.  The only difference we were able to sleep in a little bit, which was much needed.  Our hosts were at their day jobs, so they weren’t at the house.  We decided to hop borders and head to Germany.  Here we visited Aachen, Germany.  It’s a beautiful town.  Amazing chocolate, amazing beer, amazing people, amazing everything!  For those of you that know me personally, I recommend Paulener beer to all the Blue Moon lovers out there.  It’s like Blue Moon on steroids.  The flavor is super delicious!!!! 🙂

Aside from all that, it’s also architecture heaven.  Check it out.

It’s also filled with gingerbread stores.

No medievil town is complete without a huge church.

The food market here was out of this world too.  Fresh fish, fresh cheese, fresh everything!  I wanted to get a little of everything.  Luckily, this guy let me try some of the cheese they were sealing.

They even had fresh lavender.  You want to grow it? Go ahead.  You want to use it to make scented whatever’s at home?  Go ahead.  It’s there to be sold, and you can do whatever you want with it.

Here’s a picture Marta’s mom took of us.  I’m not a huge fan of ever being in front of the camera…but here’s this.

Next stop, Monschau, Germany.  This little town is about as little as you can get.  The one way streets and small houses have remained unchanged for over 300 years.  It’s nestled in the middle of a valley.  It’s super cool and beyond belief tranquil.  I’d love to buy a house there.  Maybe when I’m old and gray.

After this we ended up heading back to Belgium.  Once we got back, our hosts were back.  We ended up going to a cemetery for the American soldiers who lost their lives in World War 1&2 defending Belgium from the opposing forces.  There were hundreds, if not thousands of graves there.  It was very chilling, but it was very well kept.  One of our host, Lech, wanted to show this to me.  He wanted to let me know that he and all the people in the surrounding villages are still grateful for what America did in the wars.

Afterwards, Lech wanted to take me to a brewery that was run in a Monastery.  Unfortunately, the only day of the week that this was closed was on Tuesdays.  Yay….

Oh well…hopefully we’ll get to try the amazing beer straight from the tap another day.  It was one of the first Belgian beers I tried here.  Loved the taste.  It’s a pretty delicious stout.  Next blog should be written in Paris.  We have a train to catch at 5:30a.m., which is in…….about 5 and a half hours.  I guess I should go to sleep.  Goodnight folk!
