Traveling Wedding Photographer | Belgium and Fans

Ok…So I was still a little jet lagged.  Not now, but I was the morning of our 12 hour drive from Poznan, Poland to Belguim.  Marta and I were woken up by the in-laws around 7-ish.  I say 7-ish because my face was stuck to the pillow for quite some time.  It was time for some coffee and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  Yum!  It was an awesome sunrise.

We left the house thirty minutes late, and, once we were thirty minutes out, we realized that we had forgotten something at the house and had to double back.

Me, being the sleepy guy that I am at 7-ish in the morning, missed out on some awesome shots of Poland because I slept in the car almost as fast as it left the house.

I woke up in Germany.  The land of awesome cars and awesome beers.  I hadn’t seen so many German cars in one place before in my life.  Everywhere you looked you saw BMW’s, Mercedes’, Volkswagen’s, even Smart cars.  It was awesome.  We didn’t really get a chance to stop for any beer since we were on a tight schedule, but we did stop for food every once in awhile.  If there’s one thing that I noticed about this country, it’s how Green it is.  We saw hundreds, if not thousands, of these huge fans powering villages and cities.  On top of that, every other house had solar panels on them.  As we were leaving the country we saw three Nuclear Power Plants.  Two were inactive, and one was partially inactive.  After the events in Japan with their Nuclear Power Plants, Germany decided to close them all down by 2024 (I think) and switch to cleaner energy (i.e. wind energy).  All in all, Germany is a beautiful country and is heading in the right way as far as energy is concerned.

Something about these fans just kept me in awe.  They’re so cool.  I wish America would make this one of our mass sources of energy.

I took another nap (which was awesome) and woke up just outside of Belgium.  I don’t know how many of you know this, but Belgium is one of the few countries of today that still have a King.  Of course there’s a Parliament, but neither the Parlaiment nor the King have agreed on anything for quite sometime.  Goverment is at a pretty big standstill over here.  Life is still pretty much the same though and the community is still kickin’.  The people are awesome here.  Everyone is very nice.  On top of that, the scenery is beautiful.  I often joke with the people that I’m with that I’m going to buy a house or apartment here and just stay here months at a time.

Anyways, once we get to the house where we’re going to be staying the next couple of days, we are immediately greeted with beer and food.  Talk about an great invitation to a home! At least in my eyes it is. ;p

Oh!….I almost forgot (I edited this in the middle of writing this post) to mention that one of the things my gracious host gave me to welcome me to their home was champagne.  I’m not talking sparkling wine here people.  If anyone reading this is a wine-o, then they know that the only real champagne in the world is champagne from Champagne, France.  Everything else is sparkling wine in the wine world.  I know, I know.  There’s no big difference, Rudy.  I kid you not, that was the best champagne I’ve ever had.  With the quickest buzz too. 🙂

Anyways, it’s very customary to have a deep fryer in every Belgium house.  Fench fries are a huge delicacy over here.  Aside from the fact that you can get them anywhere, they also come in an array of flavors.  First thing fried though was cheese.  Yes, I had a cheese dipper as an appetizer.  Yes, I just called it a cheese dipper and not a cheese stick (read: Uno Menu).

I didn’t take pictures of the rest of the meal.  I was waaaaay to hungry.  I know…I’m a fat American, oh well. 🙂

We go to bed shortly after and wake up to realize how awesome it is around this house.

This picture above is actually a small part of the room.  We have a room that used to be the attic.  The daughter of the owner is a yoga instructor.  She turned the attic into a yoga room when she lived here.  Now it’s an extra bedroom.  I didn’t have enough time to get a better shot yet, but we’re going to be here for a few more days.

This is just outside of the window.  There’s two main windows, and this is the one closest to the bed.

This is literally right outside of the window.  It’s kind of creepy that someone could see us in the other house.  I’m glad there are blinds here.

That’s it for now.  I went to a whole bunch of places in Belgium today.  Can’t wait to tell you all more about them.

P.P.S.  I’m not going to lie when I say this: I’m a little behind on editing.  I have so much to show, and so much to share.  I just want to keep it to one post a day, and not three.  I have all of today’s photos done, but I don’t want to bombard you.  Eh…more to come. 🙂
