Juicing, and my Experience So Far | Personal | Rudy & Marta

So…I’ll be honest.  I kind of made a resolution without really trying to make a resolution.  I’m not trying to be like everyone else in what I decided to do.  I’m not trying to follow a click or group or anything.  This is for me.  Marta is doing it too, but I intended it to be a solo mission.  Juicing fruits and vegetables is what we’re doing.

Everyone has this whole idea of losing weight and getting a six pack or something similar.  Maybe you want to fit in the pair of jeans that you loved from high school or college.  Maybe you want to just have more energy and not be ashamed to take off your shirt while at the beach this summer.  Whatever it is, usually (from what I know) people always want to lose more weight.  They want to start fresh and new with the new year.

I’ll break it down to the bare bones here.  My family has a history of hereditary illnesses.  My Mother has breast cancer and high blood pressure.  My Father had skin cancer and currently has Type 2 Diabetes, not to mention that he’s had one heart attack (I know people that have had several).  I don’t want to follow in their footsteps.  I don’t want to be watching what I eat all the time because of my glucose/sodium/sugar levels.  I just want to be healthy and live a happy life.

I have a friend of mine that decided to watch a documentary called “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead“, and in time I watched it based on his recommendation.  It’s about this Australian guy that has an autoimmune disease who sets out to cure his disease naturally since he has to take like nine different pills numerous times a day.  It’s very inspiring and what not.  That’s beside the point though.  I usually hit up the gym a couple times a week at least.  I’m not a body builder, but I do want to be healthy.  A number of nutrients that you get out of one juice is crazy.

Four carrots, and four oranges.  Looks like a lot, but in juice form, it’s not.  At the same time, those juices that you buy in the store (Ocean Spray, V8, Tropicana) are so processed and pasteurized that they lose many of the vital nutrients found in these vegetables and fruits.  I like vegetables, but prefer fruits over them any day.  It’s my Diabetic sweet tooth I guess.  Regardless, I get the nutrients of four carrots and four oranges in one swig.  The best part, you don’t have to worry about unnatural sodium, sugars, or preservatives.

This image doesn’t really do the juicer any justice.  It’s way bigger than it looks. The black thing all the way to the left is my Mr. Coffee coffee maker.  I haven’t had to use it since I got the juicer.  I have soooooo much energy.  It’s astonishing how energetic I am.

Juice some oranges.  Then some carrots.

Fresh juice.  It doesn’t get any fresher than that.

Cheers!

Have that juice with a Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Wrap (add a little Balsamic Vinegar) and you’re set.

There are a lot of juices to help you medicinally as well.  I’ve been looking into it and they have everything from weight loss (The main guy from the documentary, Joe, lost about a pound a day, though he was fasting while juicing and under doctor supervision) and weight gain, to eczema and hair loss, to skin and hair care.  I don’t know if it’ll all work, but at the end of the documentary *SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER ALERT* Joe didn’t need to take any more medication for his autoimmune disease because essentially he cured himself of his illness.  All because of what he put into his body.

All I do know is that I’m on Day 3 of this juicing thing and I feel great.  I’m eating whole foods while doing this, though I don’t really need to.  I guess I do it out of habit.  All I know is that I’m trying to lead a healthier lifestyle and it all starts with the diet that you have, no just what you do.  Skinny people have heart attacks too if they don’t eat right.  Anyone can have clogged arteries.

Until next time,

Rudy

P.S.  On Day 3 I’ve lost four pounds.  I’m not doing the weight loss juices; I have whatever I feel like having.

P.P.S. The model of juicer that I got is the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus.  It’s got an 850-Watt motor, which apparently is great for a starter juicer.  The only thing that I’m uncertain about is if I can juice a banana or not.  I haven’t tried it, but I’ll let you all know what happens when I do.
